Felix Auger-Aliassime Parts Ways with Longtime Coach Frederic Fontang

Canadian tennis sensation Félix Auger-Aliassime has made the pivotal decision to part ways with coach Frédéric Fontang after a decade of collaboration.

He shared this significant news via a heartfelt post on social media this past Friday.

The 25-year-old athlete extended his warmest wishes to Fontang, expressing hope for his future endeavors.

“I want to convey my sincere respect, gratitude, and admiration for his unwavering commitment and the fervor he exhibited every day while helping me reach my goals,” Auger-Aliassime wrote in both English and French. “Since I was just 16, he has played a crucial role in my growth, guiding me through remarkable moments in this sport.

“He stood by me during the most challenging phases of my career, offering the calm, composure, and wisdom I needed to navigate those tough times.”

Recently, Auger-Aliassime faced a tough challenge in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, where he was narrowly defeated by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a score of 6-7 (10), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4) on Tuesday.

As the third seed in the Grand Slam event, he battled against Djokovic, who was seeded seventh.

Currently, the Montreal native holds the fourth spot in the ATP Tour rankings.

He is gearing up to compete at the National Bank Open in his hometown from August 1 to 13.

“Reflecting on this journey, I can confidently say that beyond being an exceptional coach, (Fontang) has been an invaluable mentor throughout my transition into adulthood,” Auger-Aliassime shared.
