Montreal’s own Felix Auger-Aliassime has clinched yet another title, triumphing at the European Open in Belgium this past Sunday.

The 25-year-old Canadian sensation defeated Czechia’s Jiri Lehecka with scores of 7-6(2), 6-7(7), 6-2, securing his victory at the indoor hard court ATP 250 event.

Auger-Aliassime, the tournament’s second seed, unleashed 17 aces during the two-hour and thirty-four-minute showdown, winning an impressive 79 percent of his first-serve points.

Even after dropping the second set, he maintained his composure, converting two out of six break-point chances without allowing Lehecka any break-point opportunities.

“It’s the final, so we gave it our all,” Auger-Aliassime remarked. “Both of us were incredibly focused from the start. The level was high for two sets, and you never know how the match may unfold.”

“But I’m certainly pleased.”

This victory represents Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third win of the year, following his earlier successes in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia, back in January.

He is now equal to Milos Raonic for the most singles titles among Canadian men in the Open era.

Currently ranked 13th in the world, Auger-Aliassime has slipped from the No. 6 position he notably held in November 2022.
