Felix Auger-Aliassime has claimed the spotlight in Montreal!
In an exciting first-round match at the Swiss Indoors, the fifth-seeded Auger-Aliassime triumphed over fellow Montreal native Gabriel Diallo with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
The two Canadians shared a heartfelt moment with a long embrace at the net after Auger-Aliassime sealed his victory.
This marked the inaugural ATP Tour clash between players who have known each other since childhood. At 25, Auger-Aliassime holds an edge in professional experience, having gained early recognition as a teenager. Currently ranked 12th in the world, he recently made waves by reaching the semifinals of the US Open.
Diallo, who is now 24 and ranked 41st globally, has made significant strides in his career after playing NCAA tennis at Kentucky.
In the match, Auger-Aliassime converted four of his twelve break points, while Diallo managed just one out of four. Additionally, Auger-Aliassime had a stronger first-serve percentage, landing 78% compared to Diallo’s 67%.
Fresh off a championship win at the European Open in Belgium, Auger-Aliassime is now set to face off against Croatia’s Marin Cilic.
