The moment we’ve all been waiting for: a Canadian triumphs in singles tennis on grass!
Felix Auger-Aliassime, the tournament’s top seed, kicked off his campaign at the Libema Open with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the second round of this ATP Tour 250 grass-court event in the Netherlands on Thursday.
Prior to this match, Canadians had faced disappointment with a 0-6 record in singles during the grass-court season, including a walkover loss suffered by Victoria Mboko due to a knee injury.
Auger-Aliassime, fresh off reaching the French Open quarterfinals, enjoyed a first-round bye at the Libema Open.
The talented Montreal native, now ranked a career-high No. 4, impressively faced no break points against Fucsovics.
Next up for Auger-Aliassime is a clash against Poland’s world No. 76, Kamil Majchrzak.
