Having already served as the Tournament Director in 2023 and 2024 during the thrilling matches held in Malaga, Spain, Lopez had the privilege to witness his close friend and legendary former teammate, Rafael Nadal, bid farewell to his illustrious career at the 2024 Davis Cup.
This new agreement ensures that Lopez will now oversee the Davis Cup finals at the tournament’s new venue in Italy from 2025 to 2027.
“The Davis Cup holds a special place in my heart, and it has been an incredible honor to serve as the Final 8 Tournament Director over the past two years,” Lopez stated. “I’m grateful to the ITF for trusting me with the long-term vision of this iconic event, and I’m enthusiastic about the upcoming journey in Italy over the next three years.”
Mark your calendars! The 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 is set to unfold from November 18-23 at the Super Tennis Arena in Bologna Fiere.
Lopez made his Davis Cup debut representing Spain back in 2003 and played a pivotal role in securing victories in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2019. With a commendable record of 19 wins and 23 losses across 31 ties, his contributions have been invaluable.
Notably, during the 2008 Davis Cup final, Lopez showcased his tenacity by triumphing over Juan Martin del Potro in four grueling sets, propelling Spain to an unexpected victory over heavily-favored Argentina, which boasted stars like David Nalbandian and del Potro.
