NEW YORK — In an exciting new chapter for the U.S. Open, Eric Butorac has been appointed as the tournament director, succeeding Stacey Allaster, the U.S. Tennis Association announced on Monday.

Previously serving as the USTA’s senior director of player relations and business development, Butorac also took on the role of tournament director for this year’s inaugural mixed doubles event at the U.S. Open.

“This opportunity feels like a dream realized, and it marks a significant milestone in my tennis journey,” Butorac expressed enthusiastically.

With a vibrant 14-year professional playing career, Butorac achieved an impressive top 20 ranking in ATP doubles and was a finalist in the 2014 Australian Open doubles competition.

He also held the prestigious position of president of the ATP player council during his career.

Joining the USTA in 2016, he made his mark as the tournament director of the Cincinnati Open in 2022.

“Eric has played a crucial role in enhancing the U.S. Open experience for both players and fans alike. His vision, dedication, and love for the game position him perfectly to lead the tournament into its next era,” stated Brian Vahaly, interim co-CEO of the USTA.

Stacey Allaster, hailing from Windsor, Ontario, made history as the first woman to serve as tournament director of the U.S. Open, starting in 2020—an event that dates back to 1881. She has been with the USTA since 2016 and previously led the WTA women’s professional tennis tour as chairman and CEO.

Allaster will continue to serve as the USTA’s chief executive of professional tennis until May, after which she will transition to an advisory role within the organization.
