The Alexandra Eala extravaganza in Toronto is far from over!
The rising Filipino sensation triumphed over American Caty McNally with a nail-biting score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a thrilling encounter lasting two hours and 39 minutes on Friday night, securing her place in the Round of 16 at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers.
Toronto’s vibrant Filipino community rallied passionately once again for the 25th-seeded Eala, who showcased her resilience by bouncing back from a setback in the second set to clinch the win.
Only four days after making history as the first Filipino to conquer a WTA Tour event by defeating Jessica Pegula in the DC Open final, Eala is set to face off against 12th-seeded Belinda Bencic from Switzerland this Sunday.
Earlier that day, Canada’s own Leylah Fernandez also advanced to the Round of 16 with a stunning 6-1, 6-4 victory over fifth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva.
