MADRID — Novak Djokovic has officially withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to a persistent injury.

The fourth-ranked tennis star has not seen action since the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. He also missed the Miami Open owing to a right shoulder issue and opted out of the Monte Carlo Masters.

“Regrettably, I’ll be unable to compete at this year’s Madrid Open,” he shared on his social media on Friday. “I’m focusing on my recovery to return as soon as possible. Hasta pronto!”

Djokovic is a three-time champion at the Madrid event.

In a statement, the tournament expressed: “We look forward to seeing you back here soon so we can once again enjoy your incredible tennis at the Caja Mágica.”
