Gabriel Diallo from Montreal has exited the Madrid Open after withdrawing from his second-round match due to an injury.
Diallo was in a tough spot on Friday, trailing 7-5, 3-3 against Danish qualifier Elmer Moller when he decided to pull out.
This decision came soon after Diallo had requested a medical timeout.
Upon resuming play, Diallo managed to break Moller and had double break points, putting him in a position to lead 4-2 in the second set. However, the match took a turn when Moller held serve, prompting Diallo’s retirement.
Seeded 32nd at the tournament, Diallo had received a bye in the opening round.
Later on Friday, the women’s 10th seed, Victoria Mboko from Burlington, Ontario, took to the court to compete against American Caty McNally.
