With a coveted spot at the Nitto ATP Finals on the horizon, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime are both displaying a focused determination at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

The duo continued their impressive streaks on Monday, each effortlessly securing straight-set victories in the third round. The seventh-seeded De Minaur cruised through Kamil Majchrzak with a score of 6-1, 7-5, while the 12th seed Auger-Aliassime bested Jesper de Jong, 6-4, 7-5. Remarkably, neither player has dropped a set in their first two matches in Shanghai.

The 26-year-old De Minaur showcased his prowess by breaking Majchrzak’s serve five times, leading to his impressive 36th hard-court win of 2025. Notably, two of those breaks occurred after he faced a setback, trailing 3-4 in the second set. Currently ranked seventh in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, De Minaur remains in a strong position to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.

“I came into this week aware of how challenging the conditions would be,” De Minaur reflected after his victory, lasting one hour and 27 minutes. “The key is to stay resilient and prepare for tough matches every time you step on the court. There are no easy outings, especially under these conditions. I’m pleased I managed to regain my composure in the second set, break back, and finish in two sets. A third would have been a real battle.”

Next up, De Minaur will face Nuno Borges in the fourth round, following Borges’ victory over local #NextGenATP star Shang Juncheng with a score of 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3. A win against Borges would mark De Minaur’s 50th tour-level victory in a single season, a first for him.

Auger-Aliassime also had a promising outing, converting three of his four break points against De Jong. The Canadian, who received assistance from a ball kid after slipping in the second set, managed to win an impressive 77% (30/39) of points on his first serve, as noted by Infosys ATP Stats.

With a striking record of 10-2 since the beginning of August (with both losses to Jannik Sinner), Auger-Aliassime will face either eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti or 26th seed Luciano Darderi for a chance to reach the quarter-finals. Currently sitting 10th in the Live Race, he is just 580 points behind Musetti, seeking a return to the Nitto ATP Finals after making his debut in 2022.
