This past Friday at the China Open in Beijing, Alex de Minaur and Jakub Mensik seized crucial victories, enhancing their chances of qualifying for the season-ending finale.
As the third seed in this ATP 500 event, De Minaur solidified his eighth position in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin by defeating local favourite Buyunchaokete with a decisive score of 6-4, 6-0. With an impressive tally of 32 victories on hard courts this season, the Australian is vying for his second appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals, having first competed in 2024.
Meanwhile, rising star Jakub Mensik climbed to 18th in the Live Race after achieving a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Miomir Kecmanovic. Although he remains 1,115 points behind De Minaur in the qualification race, the 20-year-old has his sights set on potential opportunities as the ATP Tour season gradually wraps up on hard court surfaces.
Mensik made a significant impact last year by reaching the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai on his debut and later securing his first title at that level in Miami, where he famously defeated Novak Djokovic in the final.

Next up for De Minaur is a match against Arthur Rinderknech. The 30-year-old Frenchman, who fell to David Goffin in the qualifying rounds, sought to avenge his loss by posting a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win against Goffin just two days later in the main draw as a lucky loser.
Mensik will face qualifier Arthur Cazaux, who triumphed over home wild card Shang Juncheng with a score of 0-6, 7-6(5), 7-5 in their inaugural Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting.

After clinching his fourth title of the season in Hangzhou last week, Alexander Bublik ascended three spots to 12th in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. However, he faced an unfortunate setback in his Beijing opener, falling to Adrian Mannarino with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Bublik is renowned for his powerful serves but managed just three aces compared to Mannarino’s eight and was unable to capitalize on any of the three break points he created, according to Infosys ATP Stats. He will now set his sights on Shanghai, aiming to maintain momentum in his quest for a first-time qualification at the Nitto ATP Finals.
