Daniil Medvedev embarked on an exciting new phase in his career on Saturday at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open.
In his first outing since parting ways with his long-time coach, Gilles Cervara, the former world No. 1 showcased his prowess by easing past Nishesh Basavareddy with a score of 6-2, 6-3 at the Chinese ATP 250. Following his surprising first-round exit at the US Open against Benjamin Bonzi, Medvedev has begun a fresh collaboration with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, and he returned to the court with a strong performance against #NextGenATP qualifier Basavareddy.

“I really enjoyed the match. I’m satisfied with my performance and my service today,” Medvedev remarked during his on-court interview. “Winning feels great, especially since I haven’t had many victories recently. I love this city and I’m looking forward to spending more days here.”
Medvedev took control of the match by winning nine consecutive games after being level at 2-2 in the first set. Despite facing a single break while serving at 5-1 in the second set, he concluded the match with efficiency, converting four of the eight break points he created, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
With this dominant 76-minute victory, Medvedev enhanced his season record to 27-18. The 29-year-old is currently World No. 18 and has faced challenges this year, with only one win at the four majors. His recent loss to Bonzi was the catalyst for his decision to part with Cervara.
Now, with a fresh approach under Johansson and Goetzke, which Medvedev has described as ‘an interesting new project’, he sets his sights on securing a semi-final spot in Hangzhou against either local favorite Wu Yibing or Sebastian Korda.
In other action on Saturday, Learner Tien moved on to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Giulio Zeppieri. The #NextGenATP American, currently third in the PIF ATP Live Race To Jeddah, will next face either top seed Andrey Rublev or qualifier Valentin Royer.
