Daniil Medvedev is eager to turn around a challenging 2025 season as he heads into the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open. Recently slipping to No. 18 in the PIF ATP Rankings, he is determined to revive the form that once placed him in the esteemed ATP No. 1 Club.

The 2020 Nitto ATP Finals champion prepares to compete at this tournament as he embarks on a new journey following his split from longtime coach Gilles Cervara, a decision made after his early elimination by Benjamin Bonzi at the US Open. In his pre-tournament press conference, Medvedev announced collaborations with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke.

“It’s not been an easy decision, but I’m excited to work with them for the rest of this season and then evaluate how things go for the next,” he expressed.

“I really appreciate their coaching style and insights, making this an intriguing new chapter in my career.”

It All Adds Up

Medvedev also shared that he took a brief hiatus after the US Open for some personal rejuvenation, returning to training in Monte-Carlo in preparation for the Asian Swing.

“I didn’t touch a racket for about two weeks post-US Open because I knew I had time before the next tournament,” he explained.

“Last week was fantastic—I played some of my best tennis of the year, possibly the best overall. The aim now is to translate that form onto the match court. If I can achieve that, I believe I can secure tournament victories or at least perform at a high level, which remains my top priority.”

Ranked second in Hangzhou, he is set to clash with qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy or the seasoned Marin Cilic in his first match. This season, Medvedev holds a record of 26 wins against 18 losses according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
