An exciting addition to the National Bank Open presented by Rogers is that an eighth Canadian player will join the main men’s draw.

Dan Martin secured his spot in the national open on Sunday in Toronto, overcoming Japan’s Taro Daniel with a dramatic scoreline of 6-7 (8), 7-6 (4), 7-5.

The thrilling contest was tied at 5-5 (40-40) in the third set when a thunderstorm interrupted play at Sobeys Stadium on Saturday.

However, the 26-year-old Canadian quickly sealed his victory when action resumed the following morning.

Ranked 554th on the ATP Tour, Martin held his serve to take a 6-5 lead before breaking Daniel to clinch the match.

In the first round, he’ll face the 50th-ranked Spaniard, Jaume Munar.

Additionally, seven other Canadians will be competing in the men’s tournament.
