In a gripping showdown at the WTA Finals, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner from New Zealand, Erin Routliffe, faced a tough loss against Czechia’s Katerina Siniakova and American Taylor Townsend, with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Tuesday.

The No. 3 seeds held a promising lead of 5-2 in the second set before Siniakova and Townsend mounted a stunning comeback.

Previously, Dabrowski and Routliffe triumphed over the same duo in the championship match of last year’s WTA Finals and again in the finals of this year’s U.S. Open.

This latest win evened the competition between the two teams, bringing their head-to-head record to two victories each.

With this victory, Siniakova and Townsend improved their group stage record to 2-0.

Dabrowski and Routliffe, now holding a record of 1-1, are set to face Hungary’s Tímea Babos and Brazil’s Luisa Stefani in their upcoming final round-robin match.
