Cincinnati, Doha, and Bastad Win 2025 ATP Tournament of the Year Awards

The Cincinnati Open, Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha, and Nordea Open in Bastad have been distinguished as Tournaments of the Year for 2025, following extensive player surveys.

For the first time, the Cincinnati event earned the title of ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year, following a remarkable $260 million redevelopment at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Meanwhile, Doha elevated its status to an ATP 500 event this season and triumphed in its category, while the breathtaking Bastad event secured the ATP 250 Tournament of the Year accolade for the 13th occasion.

The Cincinnati Open truly embraced its newfound stature, expanding to over 40 acres and transforming into an enchanting venue that marries top-tier tennis with a vibrant, amusement park-like atmosphere. This monumental investment was made in collaboration with the City of Mason, Warren County, and the State of Ohio.

Celebrating its 126th year, the event hosted a record number of participants — 96 in singles and 32 in doubles — extending over 12 exciting days, while fostering one of the most welcoming environments on the Tour.

“We are deeply humbled to receive the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament of the Year award for the first time in our history,” remarked Bob Moran, the tournament director. “This honor reflects the vision and dedication brought forth by Ben and Kelly Navarro, who aspired to create an unparalleled experience for both fans and players. This achievement is a testament to our entire team’s effort, and we are thankful to the ATP and players for recognizing our hard work.”

This year, Carlos Alcaraz claimed the men’s singles title in Cincinnati, while Rajeev Ram and Nikola Mektic clinched the doubles championship.

The Qatar ExxonMobil Open, a multiple-time winner in the ATP 250 ranks, has raised the bar in terms of organization, player services, and hospitality, earning its place as ATP 500 Tournament of the Year.

This February event attracted an elite player lineup, including Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, further solidifying its global prestige and impact in the region.

“We are truly grateful to be recognized as the best tournament in the ATP 500 category,” said tournament director Karim Alami. “This accolade showcases the passion, effort, and teamwork that embodies our event. From our exceptional players and loyal fans to our dedicated sponsors and staff, each member contributed to crafting an extraordinary experience on and off the court.”

“This recognition motivates us to keep elevating our standards and to continue delivering unforgettable tournaments for the future.”

Andrey Rublev triumphed in Doha’s singles, winning the coveted “Golden Falcon” trophy after a thrilling three-set match against Jack Draper. The doubles title went to the British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool over fellow countrymen Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski.

The Nordea Open, which enjoyed 11 consecutive wins as ATP 250 Tournament of the Year from 2002 to 2012, has now secured this honor twice in the last three years. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023, this stunning Swedish tournament continues to captivate players and fans alike.

“We are thrilled and incredibly grateful for this recognition. Our goal is always to provide top-notch services and hospitality for everyone involved; players, partners, and fans,” stated CEO & Managing Director Christer Hult. “This validates the hard work of our team and encourages us to further enhance the tournament experience. A heartfelt thanks to the players, our fantastic organization, and the support from ATP.”

This year, sixth-seeded Luciano Darderi claimed the singles title at Bastad, and the doubles championship went to top seeds Guido Andreozzi and Sander Arends after a climactic Match Tie-break.

In a notable update,2025 sees the introduction of fresh modifications to the ATP Awards, aimed at amplifying the prestige and excitement surrounding these annual honors.

For the first time ever, winners of the Breakthrough of the Year and Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award will be determined by members of the exclusive ATP No. 1 Club — including all 29 current and former players who have reached the prestigious World No. 1 ranking.

The newly established Breakthrough of the Year award honors the player who has made the most significant strides on the ATP Tour this season, factoring in milestone achievements, notable advancements in the PIF ATP Rankings, and first ATP Tour titles. While there are no age limitations, the award is particularly aimed at young and emerging players.
