Legendary tennis icon Chris Evert announced on Thursday that her battle with ovarian cancer has taken a challenging turn, preventing her from attending Wimbledon this year.
At 71, Evert’s journey with ovarian cancer began in December 2021, and in December 2023, she shared the heartbreaking news of its recurrence.
In a heartfelt social media update, she revealed that she had already undergone surgery as a vital first step in her treatment journey. Chemotherapy is set to begin in the coming weeks following this recent diagnosis.
“As a result, I will miss Wimbledon this year and will be pausing my professional obligations over the next few months to devote time to my health,” Evert shared.
“Ovarian cancer is an unforgiving adversary, yet I remain hopeful and resolute in my fight against it. I am incredibly thankful for my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has extended their support and encouragement. I can’t wait to reconnect with everyone soon.”
An 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, Evert continues to shine in the tennis world as a respected analyst for ESPN.
