In front of an enthusiastic audience in Groningen, Cerundolo overcame a shaky start to notch his 33rd tour-level win of the season, as noted by the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. The first set featured six service breaks, but Cerundolo surged to a 4-0 lead in the tie-break, securing an early advantage over the local favorite.
Argentina, the champions of the 2016 Davis Cup, will look to clinch the series on Saturday.
“It feels amazing,” remarked Etcheverry post-victory, as reported by DavisCup.com. “Winning the first point is crucial. I’ve been training hard, and it truly feels wonderful to deliver here.”
After reaching the finals in 2024, where they fell to Italy, hopes are high for the Dutch team.
Fritz Equalizes for the U.S. Against Czechia
Taylor Fritz kept Team USA in the match, leveling the tie at 1-1 against Czechia in Delray Beach with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Miami champion Jakub Mensik. This win adds to Fritz’s lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series, marking a crucial comeback following their semi-final encounter in Miami.
“It’s fantastic to represent Team USA,” Fritz said. “The crowd was incredible tonight in Delray. It’s great to perform well for the team.”
Czechia initially took the lead as Jiri Lehecka scored a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win over Frances Tiafoe.
