Carlos Alcaraz has been honored as the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year during the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards held in Madrid. This marks a significant milestone for the 22-year-old Spaniard.

In an extraordinary 2025 season, Alcaraz dominated the ATP Tour, capturing an impressive eight titles—including major wins at Roland Garros and the US Open. His remarkable performances secured him the coveted title of ATP Year-End No. 1, culminating an intense rivalry with fellow star Jannik Sinner.

Other contenders for the esteemed World Sportsman of the Year award included 24-year-old Italian talent Jannik Sinner, football prodigy Ousmane Dembele, pole vault great Mondo Duplantis, motorcycling champion Marc Marquez, and cyclist Tadej Pogacar.

With this win, Alcaraz joins the exclusive ranks of the ‘Big Three’: Roger Federer (2005-08, 2018), Rafael Nadal (2011, 2021), and Novak Djokovic (2012, 2015-16, 2019, 2024). This is not his first accolade from Laureus; in 2023, he clinched the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award after his historic ascent to become the youngest No. 1 in ATP history at just 19.

Alcaraz concluded the 2025 season with a remarkable 71-9 win-loss record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Alongside his major victories, he secured ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati, and ATP 500 titles in Rotterdam, London, and Tokyo. He also made it to the finals of the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time, though he was bested by Sinner.

In addition to Alcaraz, #NextGenATP Brazilian Joao Fonseca was also nominated for an award in Madrid, celebrating his meteoric rise to a career-high World No. 24—a standout story of the 2025 season.
