Having made six consecutive Nitto ATP Finals appearances, the 2020 champion, Daniil Medvedev, is on the brink of an extraordinary comeback to secure yet another spot at the season’s grand finale.
Entering the Rolex Shanghai Masters in 20th place, Medvedev’s journey to Italy from November 9-16 was precarious. However, after reaching the semi-finals in Shanghai, he surged to 15th in the Live Race.

With 2,360 points, Medvedev finds himself 1,075 points behind eighth-placed Musetti. Although time is short to climb into a qualifying position, Medvedev has a fighting chance. The former World No. 1 is poised to make a mark this week at the Almaty Open—an ATP 250 event—where he is seeded second. Musetti, on the other hand, holds the top seed at the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open in Brussels.
Additionally, Medvedev is set to compete in the ATP 500 in Vienna—a tournament he won in 2022—and the Rolex Paris Masters, presenting him with a potential opportunity to rake in 1,750 points across his next three tournaments.
Musetti and sixth-placed Ben Shelton are each vying for their inaugural berth at the Nitto ATP Finals. Ninth-placed Jack Draper was also in the running for his debut but has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to injury.
Of the other players in qualifying positions, all have experience at the year-end championships. Novak Djokovic is a record seven-time Nitto ATP Finals champion, while Alexander Zverev boasts two titles at this elite event.
Tenth-placed Felix Auger-Aliassime gave himself a solid shot at qualification by reaching the US Open semi-finals. Currently 530 points behind Musetti, he is the second seed in Stockholm. Eleventh-placed Casper Ruud (2,495 points) holds the second seed at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open in Stockholm, where 12th-placed Holger Rune (2,490 points) is the top seed.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have already secured their spots for the Nitto ATP Finals. Sinner, the defending champion, will be looking to retain his title, while Alcaraz seeks his inaugural victory at this prestigious tournament.
