In a heartfelt revelation from his forthcoming memoir, Heartbeats: A Memoir, legendary tennis player Bjorn Borg discloses that he has been battling prostate cancer.

Reflecting on his diagnosis prior to the book’s release, Borg shared insights with the BBC, emphasizing his commitment to regular health checks throughout his life.

“In 2023, during yet another check-up, the doctor informed me that things didn’t look promising. An operation was necessary,” Borg recounted to the BBC. “‘Is it absolutely required?’ I asked. ‘Yes,’ they replied. The psychological toll was tough. I questioned: ‘Has it spread?’ I just didn’t know.”

The prognosis from his doctor was alarming, stating it was “truly, truly serious.” Following surgery last year, Borg is currently in remission.

“The doctor mentioned that I still have dormant cancer cells within me. It’s a constant battle ahead, and I remain hopeful,” Borg stated. “I might be fine, or I might not. Every six months, I undergo tests. I just had my last one two weeks ago, and thankfully, I’m okay. I approach life one day at a time, year after year. It’s something you learn to live with.”

Borg has made a notable return to the tennis world in recent years, serving as Team Europe’s captain for the Laver Cup from 2017 to 2024, and making an appearance at this year’s Wimbledon—where he dominated, winning five consecutive titles from 1976 to 1980.

During his BBC interview, Borg left viewers with a crucial message related to his health.
