LONDON — Exciting news in the world of tennis: the prestigious Billie Jean King Cup Finals is set to shift its venue from Spain to the vibrant nation of China for the next three years!
Shenzhen will proudly host this renowned women’s team tournament from 2025 through 2027, as announced by the event’s organizers on Thursday.
The last two thrilling finals took place in Seville in 2023, where Canada emerged victorious, and in Malaga in 2024, when Italy claimed the title.
As of now, the specific dates for these finals have yet to be determined.
Organizers highlighted that China presents “an exceptional backdrop” for the event, owing to its “state-of-the-art facilities, burgeoning tennis culture, and an increasing enthusiasm for women’s sports.”
It’s worth noting that in 2021, the WTA Finals were relocated from Shenzhen to Guadalajara, Mexico, due to the pandemic and concerns regarding the safety of former Grand Slam doubles champion Peng Shuai, who made serious allegations against a Chinese government official.
