In an unfortunate turn of events, Bianca Andreescu has been compelled to withdraw from the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal due to a foot injury.

The Canadian tennis star made this decision mere hours before her highly anticipated second-round match against Mirra Andreeva on Tuesday.

Andreescu sustained an ankle injury while attempting to secure match point in her opening match against Barbora Krejčíková on Sunday.

Clearly distraught, she exclaimed, “why does this always happen to me?” in a moment of visible frustration.

The Mississauga, Ont. native did muster the strength to clinch two additional points and ultimately win that match, but sadly, she wasn’t fit enough to compete on Tuesday.

At just 25 years old, Andreescu’s career has been plagued by injuries.

Her pinnacle year was in 2019, where she triumphed in three tournaments, including the prestigious U.S. Open and the National Bank Open in Toronto.

However, since then, her time on the court has been sporadic, causing her ranking to plummet to No. 187 this week after she missed qualifying for both the French Open and Wimbledon.
