Bianca Andreescu is inching closer to her first Grand Slam main draw since 2024.

The Canadian sensation triumphed in her opening match of French Open qualifying, securing a 6-3, 6-2 victory against France’s Daphnée Mpetshi Perricard on Tuesday.

Andreescu showcased her prowess with three aces and only one double-fault, successfully saving seven out of eight break points while converting five of her 13 chances.

The native of Mississauga, Ont., last graced a Grand Slam stage at the 2024 US Open, where she faced a first-round exit. Her most notable recent performance was reaching the third round at Wimbledon that year.

At 25 years old, Andreescu is set to take on Czechia’s Viktória Hrunčáková on Wednesday.

Hrunčáková previously defeated Canadian Katherine Sebov with a dominant score of 6-0, 7-6 (3).

Other Canadian players, including Carol Zhao, Kayla Cross, and Cadence Brace, faced setbacks in their first-round matches.

On the men’s side, Liam Draxl and Alexis Galarneau are poised to make their Round 2 appearances on Wednesday.
