During the unforgettable Rolex Shanghai Masters on Monday, a young ball kid got his moment in the spotlight by assisting Felix Auger-Aliassime during the thrilling final moments of his match against Jesper de Jong.
With the score at 6-4, 4-5, 15/30, the No. 13 player in the PIF ATP Rankings dashed to retrieve a drop shot from the Dutch player but couldn’t quite reach it in time. After a desperate lunge, Auger-Aliassime found himself seated on the hard court.
As he was about to rise, a quick-thinking ball kid rushed onto the court, offering his hand to help the 25-year-old champion back to his feet, earning thunderous applause from the crowd for his kind gesture.
Auger-Aliassime then clinched a 6-4, 7-5 victory and is set to face either Lorenzo Musetti or Luciano Darderi in the next round. Currently ranked 10th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, he aims to make it to the Nitto ATP Finals, scheduled for November 9-16. With an impressive 36-19 season record, according to Infosys ATP Stats, he has also recently married his long-term partner, Nina.
