MONTREAL — Canadian tennis sensation Félix Auger-Aliassime is set to unveil a new coaching partnership following the U.S. Open this summer, concluding a decade-long collaboration with Frédéric Fontang.
Speaking to reporters at IGA Stadium before the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in his native Montreal, Auger-Aliassime shared his thoughts on the upcoming tournament.
The 25-year-old, currently ranked No. 4 globally, is poised to enter the men’s singles tournament as the second seed, trailing only French Open champion Alexander Zverev.
Notably, top-ranked Jannik Sinner and four-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will forgo the ATP Masters 1000 event for the second year in a row. Additionally, World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is sidelined due to a wrist injury.
Auger-Aliassime comes off a gripping quarterfinal match at Wimbledon, where he battled Djokovic for over five hours before succumbing in a five-set thriller.
After the grass court Grand Slam, he confirmed it would mark the end of his coaching journey with Fontang.
At the National Bank Open, Auger-Aliassime will have his father, Sam Aliassime, by his side to offer support as qualifying kicks off on Saturday.
With nine ATP singles titles under his belt, he is on the hunt for his elusive first victory at both the 1000 and Grand Slam levels.
The much-anticipated U.S. Open is scheduled for August 23 to September 13 in New York.
