Canadian tennis sensation Felix Auger-Aliassime has decided to withdraw from this week’s Moselle Open, prioritizing his well-being even as he risks losing a spot in the prestigious ATP Finals.
The 25-year-old Montreal native cited a knee injury as the motivating factor behind his exit from the Metz, France tournament, which is one of two ATP 250 events taking place this week.
Auger-Aliassime recently experienced a grueling journey to the final of the Paris Masters, ultimately falling to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Sunday. He showcased remarkable perseverance, coming back from a set down in his first three matches and battling through five tiebreakers.
This impressive performance elevated him to No. 8 in the ATP rankings, surpassing Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the race for the final singles spot in the ATP Finals, which kick off this Sunday in Turin, Italy.
Musetti is currently competing in the Hellenic Championship in Athens and needs a tournament victory to reclaim the ATP Finals spot from Auger-Aliassime.
With a record of 48-22 this year and three titles under his belt, Auger-Aliassime finds himself back in the top eight for the first time since April 10, 2023.
