Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov Progress at Shanghai Masters

In a spectacular display of skill, Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime triumphed over Chile’s leading player Alejandro Tabilo with a score of 6-3, 6-3 in just 87 minutes during the round of 64 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this past Friday.

The 12th seed Auger-Aliassime is set to clash with the victor of the matchup between the Netherlands’ Jesper de Jong, who triumphed over Jakub Mensik of Czechia in a nail-biting three-set battle, finishing 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4.

With a powerful performance, the Canadian ace recorded 11 aces, suffered two double faults, and delivered an impressive 32 winners against 29 unforced errors. He dominated nine service games and secured 74 percent of his first serve points.

Auger-Aliassime showcased his prowess by clinching three out of nine return games and astonishingly rattled off five consecutive games during the match.

In contrast, Tabilo managed two aces and no double faults but struggled with his game, posting 11 winners to 24 unforced errors, only capitalizing on 55 percent of his first serve points and failing to win any return games.

Meanwhile, Richmond Hill’s Denis Shapovalov is advancing as well, having defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 6-2.

Shapovalov unleashed 11 aces compared to only three from O’Connell, achieving 76 percent success on his first serves and 67 percent on his second.

Next up for the Canadian star is a showdown with the Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka.
