In an exciting lineup for the Davis Cup Final 8, Canada’s tennis squad will be spearheaded by World No. 7 Félix Auger-Aliassime alongside seasoned player Denis Shapovalov, as they journey to Bologna, Italy, next month for this prestigious international showdown.
The talented Auger-Aliassime, hailing from Montreal, and Shapovalov, representing Richmond Hill, Ontario, played pivotal roles in securing Canada’s historic Davis Cup title back in 2022.
Joining them in the quest for victory are Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl from Newmarket, Ontario, and Duncan Chan of Markham, Ontario, all of whom were announced in the roster on Monday ahead of the tournament scheduled from November 24-29.
Canada earned its spot in the finals by triumphing over France with a score of 3-1 last month in Quebec City. Although Shapovalov was absent for that tie, Auger-Aliassime secured two key singles victories, with Draxl making a significant impact by defeating then-No. 32 Arthur Rinderknech.
Ranked eighth, Canada is set to take on fifth-ranked Czechia in the quarterfinals on November 24, where the victor will advance to battle either Italy or South Korea in the semifinals.
This upcoming clash in Bologna will be particularly noteworthy, marking the inaugural Davis Cup matchup between Canada and Czechia, a nation renowned for its three Davis Cup championships.
