Demonstrating powerful serving, Auger-Aliassime delivered an impressive 13 aces compared to Cilic’s mere three and broke the Croatian’s serve three times out of ten opportunities.
With this victory, the world No. 21 improved his career head-to-head against the 186th-ranked Cilic to 2-3, marking his third consecutive three-set win in Dubai.
The 24-year-old Canadian is now set to clash with either Italy’s Luca Nardi or France’s Quentin Halys in the upcoming semifinal.
Auger-Aliassime is in pursuit of his third ATP title this season, having already celebrated victories in Adelaide, Australia, and Montpellier, France, last month.
In other quarterfinal action, the tournament’s top seed Daniil Medvedev is facing off against Tallon Griekspoor, while fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas goes head-to-head with Matteo Berrettini.
