LONDON — In a significant shift for men’s tennis, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi will step into the role of chief executive officer on an interim basis following the departure of current CEO Massimo Calvelli at the end of June. The ATP has announced that the search for Calvelli’s successor is set to begin shortly.

The sport is navigating a challenging landscape, particularly after an antitrust lawsuit was initiated last month in a New York federal court by the players’ association established by Novak Djokovic. The lawsuit alleges that the ATP, along with the women’s tour and other key entities, is functioning as a cartel.

In a separate development, Djokovic, joined by 20 top players, reached out to the leaders of the four Grand Slam tournaments seeking discussions on enhancing prize money distribution and advocating for a greater influence in decision-making processes.

Massimo Calvelli, who took the helm as ATP CEO in 2020, has overseen a significant increase in player compensation, which has risen by $100 million this season compared to 2019, according to ATP reports.
