Andrey Rublev marked a triumphant return to form, clinching his first victory since the US Open by defeating Jacob Fearnley with a score of 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round of the Rolex Paris Masters. The 12th seed improved his ATP Masters 1000 standings to 8-8 for the season, bouncing back from a challenging start where he went 1-5, following recent quarter-final appearances in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Starting strong, Rublev surged to a commanding 6-1, 2-0 lead aided by four breaks of serve. However, he faced a tough second-set showdown as British qualifier Fearnley leveled the score at 2-2. With growing intensity, Rublev encountered three missed break point opportunities at 3-2 before finally seizing his next chance, which also served as match point.

“Today’s opponent played exceptionally well; he’s had some impressive wins this year,” said Rublev after the match. “I managed to elevate my game and deliver solid tennis. Winning a match like this on center court feels incredible, especially after struggling for a while.”

According to Infosys ATP Stats, Rublev successfully converted five out of ten break points, capitalizing on 11 double faults from his opponent during their inaugural Lexus ATP Head2Head clash. His next challenge will be against Learner Tien, who triumphed over Nuno Borges with a score of 6-2, 7-6(7) earlier on Monday.

Alexander Bublik also progressed on the first day in Paris. Competing against Alexei Popyrin for the second time this season at an ATP Masters 1000 event, the Kazakhstani mirrored his Madrid victory, winning 6-4, 6-3, which evened their Lexus ATP Head2Head matchup at 2-2.

In a thrilling tight contest, two French players named Arthur claimed victories with the same score. Arthur Rinderknech overcame Fabian Marozsan, while Arthur Cazaux edged out Luciano Darderi, both finishing with 7-6(5), 7-6(4). The excitement continued as Miomir Kecmanovic triumphed over Aleksandar Kovacevic, sealing his win 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(2).
