Bianca Andreescu is set to postpone the commencement of her 2025 season following an urgent appendectomy.
The 2019 U.S. Open champion shared the news on Thursday via an Instagram Story, revealing her intention to compete in the upcoming Merida Open this month before the medical issue arose.
“I was caught off guard by some intense abdominal pain, which led to an emergency appendectomy,” Andreescu explained. “The procedure went well, and I’m on my way to a full recovery. My goal is to return to the court for the clay season, ready to come back stronger than ever.”
At just 24 years old, Andreescu has faced considerable challenges with injuries over the past couple of years. After battling a back injury that sidelined her for nine months, she made her comeback in May 2024. Her most recent appearance was at the Pan Pacific Open in October.
