The talented player from Mississauga, Ontario, triumphed over top seed Tatjana Maria from Germany with a score of 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in an exhilarating women’s singles final at the Queretaro Open tennis championship on Sunday.

This thrilling clay court encounter lasted for two hours and six minutes.

As the fourth seed in the tournament, Andreescu secured a prize of US$15,500 with her remarkable performance. She started strong, easily taking the first set. However, the seasoned Maria, 39, bounced back in the second set, demonstrating her experience. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Andreescu, who was previously ranked No. 4 in the world before injuries hindered her progress, showed resilience by regrouping in the final set to capture the coveted WTA 125 title.

The Canadian star showcased her skills by winning eight out of 12 service games and six of 12 return games, successfully saving five of nine break points in the process.

In the semifinals on Saturday, Andreescu defeated France’s Carole Monnet, clinching the match 6-3, 7-5, while Maria overcame third-seeded Fiona Ferro from France with a scoreline of 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.
