Bianca Andreescu faced a significant scare with her ankle.

During a crucial second match point that could secure her advancement at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, she rolled her ankle, casting doubt on her match.

Clearly shaken and frustrated, she exclaimed, “Why does this always happen to me?”

Despite the odds, the 25-year-old Canadian drew strength from the enthusiastic Montreal crowd. With some assistance, she made her way to the bench, had her ankle wrapped, and battled through the pain to triumph over Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday night.

“You all mean the world to me,” Andreescu expressed to the audience after her match. “I’m so thrilled to have pushed through, and it’s all thanks to your support.”

Andreescu began the match strong against Krejcikova, dominating the first set at 6-3. Although she stumbled early in the second set, she rallied impressively to regain control.

The 2019 NBO champion is set to take on Mirra Andreeva this Tuesday.
