Bianca Andreescu’s long-awaited comeback to the Grand Slam stage remains on hold.

The Canadian tennis star faced defeat in the second round of the French Open qualifiers, falling to Slovakia’s Viktoriá Hrunčáková with scores of 7-6 (2), 4-6, 4-6 this past Wednesday.

Andreescu was outperformed with 11 aces to 8, converting merely 3 of her 12 break-point chances while giving away 5 of her opponent’s 11 opportunities.

Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, the last time Andreescu graced a Grand Slam stage was during the 2024 US Open, where she exited in the first round. Her last significant triumph came that year at Wimbledon, when she progressed to the third round.

In other news, Alexis Galarneau from Laval, Quebec, remains the only Canadian contestant advancing in qualifying, successfully overcoming Brazil’s Pedro Boscardin Dias with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The 27-year-old Galarneau successfully defended against 15 of 17 break points from Boscardin Dias, while managing to secure three breaks from just seven opportunities.

Galarneau is set to take on Italy’s Federico Cina, with a coveted spot in the main draw of Roland Garros on the line. Both players currently sit outside the top 100 rankings.

Meanwhile, Liam Draxl of Canada faced elimination, losing in a tight match against the Netherlands’ Jesper De Jong with scores of 6-4, 1-6, 3-6.
