In a compelling performance at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Alex de Minaur celebrated his 50th victory of the tour this season. He defeated Nuno Borges with a score of 7-5, 6-2, marking his seventh appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final.
De Minaur is only the third player to achieve 50 wins in 2025, joining the ranks of Carlos Alcaraz (67) and Taylor Fritz (50). The Australian stands out with a leading tally of 37 victories on hard courts this year. Demonstrating confidence and a commanding style against Borges, he unleashed 19 winners while keeping his unforced errors to just 10 during their inaugural Lexus ATP Head2Head clash that lasted one hour and 47 minutes.
Last year, De Minaur recorded his best season with 47 wins and two titles, as per the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. After securing victory at the ATP 500 event in Washington this past August, the 26-year-old is now on the hunt for his second title of the year in Shanghai, where he will Face either Daniil Medvedev or #NextGenATP American Learner Tien in the next round.
“This milestone reflects my consistency, which I am deeply proud of,” De Minaur shared after notching 50 tour-level wins. “It’s about showing up every week, and I’m delighted with this achievement. I aim for more victories before the year wraps up. My journey in Asia has been fantastic so far. I emphasized to myself that competing this week would require significant mental fortitude. I’m thrilled to be in the quarter-finals, giving myself another shot at glory.”

Arriving in Shanghai after a semi-final performance in Beijing, De Minaur’s current success is enhancing his odds for the Nitto ATP Finals qualification. He ranks seventh in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, holding a 740-point lead over tenth-placed Felix Auger-Aliassime, with the ninth-placed Jack Draper sidelined for the remainder of the year due to injury.
Should De Minaur seize his first Masters 1000 title in Shanghai, he will elevate to fourth in the Live Race rankings.
Earlier in the day, Arthur Rinderknech continued his impressive form, following his victory against World No. 3 Alexander Zverev with a win over Jiri Lehecka, winning 6-3, 7-6(5) to reach his first Masters 1000 quarter-final. The Frenchman, now ranked No. 43 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, joins his cousin Valentin Vacherot in the quarter-finals. After his match, Rinderknech extended support to Vacherot, who has made history as the first Monegasque player to reach a tour-level quarter-final.
