Carlos Alcaraz has cemented his return to the top of the PIF ATP Rankings by defeating his formidable rival, Jannik Sinner, in a thrilling US Open final this past Sunday.
The 22-year-old Spanish prodigy will embark on his fifth term as World No. 1, counting a remarkable total of 37 weeks at the peak. Alcaraz climbed ahead of Sinner in the PIF ATP Live Rankings at the tournament’s outset and confirmed his ascent with a high-stakes victory of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 against the Italian in the final showdown.
Carlos Alcaraz is back at World No. 1!
In 2022, Alcaraz claimed his first Grand Slam title by defeating Casper Ruud in the US Open final, making history as the youngest player to secure the No. 1 ranking at just 19 years and four months. This past Sunday, he triumphed again in a decisive battle—with Sinner—reclaiming his top spot for the first time since September 10, 2023.
Sinner, who made history as the first Italian to reach World No. 1 on June 10, 2024, held the coveted position for 65 consecutive weeks. His impressive debut reign ranks as the fourth-longest in ATP history, trailing behind legends Roger Federer (237 weeks), Jimmy Connors (160 weeks), and Lleyton Hewitt (75 weeks).

Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, also achieved World No. 1 status 22 years ago in 2003 after a stellar run to the US Open final, having previously won his only Grand Slam title at Roland Garros earlier that season.
In 2022, Alcaraz became the youngest player to earn ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honors, breaking new ground as the first teenager to achieve this milestone. With a remarkable record of 61 wins and seven titles in 2025, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Alcaraz stands poised to reclaim this prestigious accolade.
