MONACO — In an exhilarating showdown, Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over his fellow Spaniard, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-4 on Saturday, securing his spot in the final of the prestigious Monte Carlo Masters.
The third-ranked Alcaraz, aged just 21, put forth a valiant effort, requiring six match points to seal his advancement to the 23rd tour-level final of his burgeoning career. He is set to face either Lorenzo Musetti or Alex de Minaur in Sunday’s highly anticipated match, as he seeks to claim his inaugural title in Monte Carlo.
Musetti delivered a stunning upset by eliminating the reigning champion, Stefanos Tsitsipas, during the quarterfinals on Friday.
Due to heavy rain forecasted for the evening, Sunday’s final has been moved up by three hours from its original schedule.
This final marks Alcaraz’s third straight appearance on clay, following his magnificent victory at the French Open and his silver medal finish at the Paris Olympics last year.
