MADRID — Carlos Alcaraz expressed optimism on Tuesday, stating that he feels well but will await medical test results before confirming his participation in the upcoming Madrid Open.

The 21-year-old rising star, currently ranked third, sought treatment for discomfort in his upper right leg following a straight-set defeat to Holger Rune in the Barcelona Open final this past Sunday.

“I am feeling good physically,” Alcaraz remarked. “I’ve undergone some tests, and I’m eager to see the outcomes. I’m accustomed to playing through minor pains, so I’m hopeful I’ll be able to compete and enjoy the atmosphere in Madrid.”

Having clinched a victory in Monte Carlo earlier this month, Alcaraz is set to kick off his campaign later this week as the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Alcaraz is no stranger to success in Madrid, having secured the title in both 2022 and 2023. He finds himself in the same half of the draw as the formidable three-time champion, Novak Djokovic, who is seeded fourth.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, who recently claimed the No. 2 ranking after his victory in Munich, is the top seed in Madrid, while defending champion Andrey Rublev holds the seventh seed.
