The 2025 season has kicked off spectacularly for Gael Monfils.

In January, he claimed the Auckland title, making history as the oldest ATP champion ever. Just last week, Monfils dazzled at Indian Wells, reaching the third round, which made him the third oldest player to achieve that at the BNP Paribas Open.

This week, Lamonf has made a splash in Miami, keeping his winning streak alive. He fended off Fabian Marozsan on Wednesday with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, securing a spot in the second round against Jiri Lehecka.

“I made it tough for him,” Monfils remarked after equalizing his head-to-head record with Marozsan. “I hit with greater depth in my shots and ensured he couldn’t dictate play, which I think worked in my favor.” By doing so, Monfils has become the second oldest man to win a match in Miami.

The legendary Jimmy Connors holds the record for the oldest player to win a Miami Open main draw match at the age of 39 back in 1992.

As of now, Monfils, who will celebrate his 39th birthday on September 1, boasts a commendable 12-4 record this season. The former World No. 6 continues to thrive on the court.
