United States Tennis Association Nevada is calling on every tennis professional, captain, league leader, coach, parent, and player to help protect the Craig Ranch Tennis Complex and advocate for additional courts.
North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation has confirmed in writing that its current plan would eliminate the existing six-court tennis complex as we know it. The City’s own third-party study shows that North Las Vegas is already short 12 tennis courts compared with national parks and recreation recommendations. If the six Craig Ranch courts are eliminated, that shortage will increase to 18 courts.
If the current plan proceeds, Craig Ranch would represent what we believe is the first known instance in Southern Nevada of a Parks and Recreation department eliminating a functioning six-court public tennis complex without providing a comparable tennis replacement.
Craig Ranch is North Las Vegas’s only meaningful six-court public tennis complex. It can support professional instruction, junior development, affordable after-school programs, leagues, clinics, tournaments, scholarships, and regional events. Scattered two-court sites cannot provide the same level of programming or community impact.
THE COURTS ARE UNDERUTILIZED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN PROFESSIONALLY PROGRAMMED
Craig Ranch is a beautiful public facility, but it is severely underutilized because the North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department has not engaged a qualified third-party tennis professional, nonprofit, or vendor to provide consistent programming.
The courts need affordable classes, professional lessons, junior development, adult and senior programs, USTA leagues, tournaments, and community events. Without a qualified operator responsible for activating the facility, even beautiful courts can remain empty.
Just minutes away, Lorenzi Park demonstrates what happens when public tennis courts have an expert third-party partner. Lorenzi Park achieved approximately 88% utilization, the highest utilization documented in USTA Nevada’s 2025 Southern Nevada court survey. Craig Ranch was approximately 15% utilized.
The central difference is professional programming.
Craig Ranch’s underutilization should not be used as the reason to eliminate its tennis courts. It should be recognized as the reason to bring in a qualified partner who can activate them.
HONOR THE ORIGINAL RACQUET-SPORTS VISION
The original $58,476,728 Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act grant application and the City’s public announcement described the Craig Ranch expansion as including a “multi-court tennis/pickleball complex.”
USTA Nevada helped support that original vision by providing participation data, economic-impact information, narrative development, and letters of recommendation.
- Our proposal is fair, balanced, and consistent with the original public vision:
- Preserve the existing six-court Craig Ranch Tennis Complex.
- Build the 12 new pickleball courts.
- Build additional tennis courts as part of the original racquet-sports complex.
Engage a qualified third-party professional or nonprofit partner to provide tennis and pickleball programming.
USTA Nevada is also prepared to pursue up to approximately $600,000 in potential grant support for the tennis component, subject to eligibility, approval, and final project scope.
WHY CRAIG RANCH MATTERS
Nevada’s tennis community includes approximately 275,000 players and more than 12,000 organized league participants.
USTA Nevada supports more than 90 tournaments each year, including approximately 80 junior tournaments, as well as regional, sectional, and national events. These events generate more than $18 million in annual tournament-related economic activity.
A properly designed and professionally managed Craig Ranch racquet-sports complex could provide:
- Affordable youth and after-school programming.
- Adult and senior recreation.
- Professional instruction and community clinics.
- USTA leagues and tournaments.
- College-scholarship pathways.
- Regional and national events.
- Tourism, hotel stays, and economic development.
Craig Ranch is not simply a group of courts. It is a regional public asset with the potential to serve children, families, seniors, competitive players, and visitors for generations.

Our tennis community has always advocated with sportsmanship, respect, and professionalism. We have worked positively and directly with elected officials for many years. This is the first time we have needed a broad public campaign, but we are approaching it with the same respect and deference that have always guided our advocacy.
We recognize that the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and Parks and Recreation staff have positive intentions and are working to provide meaningful recreation opportunities for North Las Vegas residents.
