North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation has confirmed in writing that it will be eliminating the six court Craig Ranch tennis complex as we know it.
This would eliminate North Las Vegas’s only meaningful six court public tennis complex. It would be one of the most significant setbacks our tennis community has ever faced.
At a time when Southern Nevada faces a significant tennis court shortage, North Las Vegas’s own third party study identifies the City as approximately 17 tennis courts below national parks and recreation recommendations.
Craig Ranch is an incredible six court tennis facility, created years ago through a partnership with Clark County. It is capable of supporting professional instruction, junior development, leagues, clinics, tournaments, scholarships, and regional events. Yet the City is now moving to eliminate this facility as a true six court tennis complex.
More than 7,600 people have already signed our petition to save the existing courts and build more courts at Craig Ranch.

The Nevada tennis community includes an estimated 275,000 Nevadans who play tennis, even using the conservative measure of playing at least once during the past year. More than 12,000 people play in organized leagues alone. USTA Nevada supports more than 90 tournaments annually, approximately 80 of which are junior tournaments, along with 23 regional, sectional, and national events.
Those events generate more than $18 million in annual tournament economic activity and are part of a broader calendar that includes three professional events.
The Nevada tennis community is large, organized, and deeply engaged. We have always maintained professional and personal relationships with elected officials and community leaders. We have never before needed a broad public advocacy campaign of this kind.
This is the first time we are asking the entire Nevada tennis community to publicly advocate for the preservation of Craig Ranch Tennis Complex in its current form. We must now make our voices heard.
THE ORIGINAL PUBLIC VISION
The original $58,476,728 SNPLMA grant application and the City’s public announcement described a major multi court racquet sports complex that included tennis and pickleball. USTA Nevada helped call for and support that original vision by working with North Las Vegas leadership and providing economic and participation data, narrative development, and recommendation letters.

As the administrator of the largest pickleball league in Nevada, USTA Nevada is very happy that North Las Vegas will be adding 12 additional pickleball courts. At the same time, the City should preserve all six existing tennis courts and build additional tennis courts as part of the same overall grant vision described in the original SNPLMA grant and the City’s public announcement.
USTA Nevada is also willing to come forward with up to approximately $600,000 in potential grant support to help build out the tennis component, subject to eligibility, approval, and final project scope.
Our proposal is straightforward: build the 12 new pickleball courts, preserve the existing six court tennis complex, and add the additional tennis courts described in the City’s original vision.

Our tennis community has always advocated with sportsmanship, respect, and professionalism. We have worked positively and directly with elected officials for many years. This is the first time we have needed a broad public campaign, but we are approaching it with the same respect and deference that have always guided our advocacy.
We recognize that the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and Parks and Recreation staff have positive intentions and are working to provide meaningful recreation opportunities for North Las Vegas residents. We strongly disagree with the proposed decision and with the failure to meaningfully include USTA Nevada and the tennis community in the process. We can disagree firmly while continuing to treat every public official and staff member with respect.
