Just a year ago, Rafael Jodar was outside the Top 900 in the PIF ATP Rankings during the Miami Open. Fast-forward 12 months, and he’s now soaring through the hard-court ATP Masters 1000 event with a remarkable performance.
On Saturday, Jodar dominated Aleksandar Vukic with a swift 6-1, 6-2 victory in just 56 minutes at Hard Rock Stadium. The young prodigy, who has lost only one set in his last four matches (including two qualifying rounds), efficiently converted four out of six break points on Court 5. With this stellar run in Florida, Jodar is set to make his debut in the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings on March 30, currently leaping 23 spots to No. 86 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings.

Before November’s Next Gen ATP Finals, Jodar hadn’t recorded a tour-level victory. Now, having claimed five wins this year—including a main-draw match at the Australian Open and victories in Delray Beach and Acapulco—his ascent is undeniable. The talented former University of Virginia player, who turned pro in December, leads the Next Gen ATP Live Race with a 129-point advantage over second-placed Joao Fonseca. He will next face 29th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who triumphed over Zizou Bergs with a scoreline of 7-6(5), 7-6(3).
In his match against Vukic, Jodar was not just effective on returns but also composed under pressure, saving all five break points he faced, as per Infosys ATP Stats.
Jodar’s emphatic win was a highlight of a remarkable 24 hours for Spanish #NextGenATP talent, as fellow qualifier Martin Landaluce upset 17th seed Luciano Darderi with a score of 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4. Now, Landaluce is gearing up to challenge 14th seed Karen Khachanov for a chance to move into the fourth round.
