In an impressive display, Alexander Zverev advanced to the semi-finals of the Miami Open presented by Itau after a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Francisco Cerundolo.

This marks a significant milestone for the 27-year-old, as it’s the first time he has reached the semi-finals in both Indian Wells and Miami within the same season.

“I expect tomorrow to be my toughest challenge yet,” Zverev stated following his advancement to his 25th ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. “I’m eager for the match. I’ve been feeling great, and I hope to keep this momentum going.”

Throughout the one-hour, five-minute match, Zverev maintained complete dominance. The two-time Nitto ATP Finals champion showcased his prowess, achieving 76% (32/46) of his first serves and winning 84% (27/32) of the points on those serves, according to Infosys ATP Stats. Additionally, he capitalized on four out of seven break point opportunities.

With this quarter-final triumph, Zverev secured his fourth consecutive win against the Argentine, taking a 4-3 lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Earlier this season, he swept Cerundolo in straight sets at both the Australian Open and Miami, with the Argentine struggling to win more than four games in any set.

As he shifts his focus to the semi-final against Sinner, Zverev anticipates a chance to avenge his previous straight-sets defeat to the Italian earlier this month. Sinner leads their rivalry 7-4 and has emerged victorious in their last six encounters.

However, Zverev has displayed strong and reliable form in South Florida, having not faced a single break point in three out of four matches during the tournament. He is eager to maintain this level against Sinner, who boasts an impressive streak of 30 consecutive sets won at the ATP Masters 1000 level.

“If it works out quickly, that’s even better,” Zverev noted about his newly adopted aggressive playing style. “I did expect some challenges, but I’ve been feeling fantastic on the court.”

Cerundolo, who made headlines by reaching the Miami semi-finals on his debut in 2022 and advancing to the quarter-finals in 2023 and 2025, appeared revitalized after defeating World No. 10 Daniil Medvedev in the third round. Yet, he couldn’t rise to Zverev’s level today, missing the opportunity to reach his third ATP Masters 1000 semi-final.
