Iga Swiatek will not incur any additional sanctions following her positive test for the prohibited substance TMZ.

Today, WADA confirmed that they will not challenge their decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding Swiatek’s situation.

The five-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek had previously served a one-month suspension after a positive test for trimetazidine (TMZ) from an out-of-competition sample collected in August.

In their statement, WADA revealed they “conducted a comprehensive review” of the case and accepted Swiatek’s assertion that her positive result was due to a contaminated melatonin product.

“On November 28, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Ms. Świątek accepted a one-month ineligibility period after determining that her positive TMZ test was due to a melatonin product sourced from a reputable pharmacy in Poland, which is regulated as medication in that country,” WADA stated. “WADA received the case file related to the ITIA decision on November 29.”

“WADA’s scientific experts have validated that the specific contamination scenario involving melatonin, as proposed by the athlete and recognized by the ITIA, is plausible. Moreover, there are no scientific grounds to contest this at CAS. WADA also sought external legal counsel who affirmed that the athlete’s explanation is well-supported, the ITIA’s decision aligns with the World Anti-Doping Code, and there is no substantial reason to appeal to CAS.”

Now the second-seeded Swiatek is set to compete against American Emma Navarro in the Australian Open quarterfinals, and she expressed relief at the resolution of her case.

“I’m just relieved to have closure, and I want to shift my focus back to the tournament. It feels great that this chapter is behind me,” Swiatek commented.
