Valentin Vacherot has etched his name in history at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, becoming the first athlete from Monaco to reach the semi-finals on home turf.

With the energy of a fervent crowd behind him on Court Rainier III, Vacherot battled past fifth seed Alex de Minaur, clinching a thrilling match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, marking his fourth victory over a Top 10 opponent and setting up an eagerly anticipated clash with World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

“It’s an absolute privilege to join the ranks of the semi-finalists alongside the top players of recent years,” Vacherot remarked. “The prospect of facing Carlos in my hometown is simply surreal.”

Earlier this week, Vacherot waged epic three-set battles against Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Hubert Hurkacz, and he dominated fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. Against De Minaur, he remarkably saved all six break points he faced in the decisive third set, showcasing his elite tennis as he clinched victory in two hours and 24 minutes.

“The shouting fans, including my childhood friends, have been my unwavering support since I was a young boy,” Vacherot reflected. “Such a rare opportunity to have my community around me during this incredible tournament makes me feel extraordinarily lucky.”

This incredible run comes just eight months after Vacherot’s stunning triumph in Shanghai, where he emerged as the lowest-ranked Masters 1000 champion in the tournament’s history. The 27-year-old made waves by breaking into the Top 40 after that victory and advancing to the Top 30 following his quarter-final appearance in Paris.

Building on his success, the Monegasque star’s ascent continues this season, now holding the No. 17 position in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. Earlier in the year, he made it to the quarter-finals in Acapulco and the fourth round in Miami.
