Coco Gauff expressed her lack of knowledge regarding the PTPA lawsuit against the ATP, WTA, and ITF.

After delivering a stunning double bagel defeat to her American rival Sofia Kenin, Gauff voiced her support for players demanding a larger share of tournament revenues.

“Honestly, I don’t have any details to provide about the [PTPA lawsuit], but I’m definitely in favor of initiatives that enhance our sport,” Gauff mentioned during her press conference in Miami. “The first time I noticed it was on Instagram two days ago, and I haven’t had the chance to delve deeper into it yet.”

With prominent figures like Novak Djokovic, investment mogul Bill Ackman, and Canadian player Vasek Pospisil at its helm, the PTPA lodged a lawsuit in federal courts in New York, the UK, and the EU earlier this week.

This legal action accuses the ATP, WTA, and International Tennis Federation (ITF) of engaging in dubious business practices that undermine players’ earning potential and constrain their professional freedoms.

In response, the ATP criticized the lawsuit as baseless.

Gauff highlighted the disparity in revenue share between tennis and other sports, noting that players generally receive less.

“For me, the key issue is not just about equity, but about securing a greater percentage of the revenue and prize pool,” Gauff commented in Miami. “For the women’s side, it’s crucial that we work towards equalizing tournaments in terms of prize money compared to the men’s circuit.”

“Moreover, there’s the matter of visibility and how we can enhance that. Addressing those aspects is paramount,” she added.

Turning 21 on March 13, the Delray Beach native emphasized the importance of perspective. Gauff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to travel the globe while doing something she loves, and being compensated for it.

“I can’t really complain. I’m a professional athlete,” Gauff noted. “The rewards frequently exceed the effort put in, and there are individuals striving in far tougher circumstances out there.”

“While it’s valid to compare our situation with other sports, when we reflect on life as a whole, I’m not in a position to complain,” she concluded.
