Tagger and McDonald Claim French Open Junior Titles

PARIS — In an impressive display of skill and determination, Austria’s Lilli Tagger has clinched the girls’ title at the French Open, completing the tournament without dropping a single set.

Making her debut in the junior division at Roland-Garros, the talented 17-year-old Tagger triumphed over eighth-seeded Hannah Klugman from Britain with a commanding score of 6-2, 6-0 in the final showdown held on Saturday.

Tagger showcased her prowess by saving all five break points thrown her way and delivering an impressive 19 winners throughout the match.

With this victory, she has made history as the first Austrian player to seize a junior singles title at the prestigious French Open. Prior to this, her best performance at a major tournament was reaching the quarterfinals at this year’s Australian Open.

In a thrilling all-German final, Niels McDonald emerged victorious against Max Schoenhaus with a final score of 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3. McDonald’s triumph marks the first time since Alexander Zverev captured the junior title at the Australian Open in 2014 that a German player has won a boys’ Grand Slam singles championship.
