LONDON — Petra Kvitova, the celebrated two-time Wimbledon champion, has revealed her plans to retire in the coming months, as she announced on Thursday.

The news broke on social media just a day after she received a wild card for this year’s Wimbledon.

“I’m thrilled and eagerly anticipating the chance to savor the experience of competing at The Championships, Wimbledon once more—this venue holds a treasure trove of my most beloved memories,” Kvitova shared.

“While I’m still piecing together what my summer hardcourt schedule in the US will entail, my goal is to conclude my active career at the US Open in New York later this summer.”

At 35 years old, Kvitova achieved a remarkable peak ranking of No. 2 and played a pivotal role in securing six Fed Cup titles for the Czech Republic, now known as the Billie Jean King Cup.

Kvitova made her last appearance at Wimbledon in 2023 and embraced motherhood for the first time when her son was born during last year’s tournament at the All England Club.

She made her return to the WTA Tour in February in Austin, Texas, after a lengthy 17-month hiatus from the sport and is currently ranked at 572nd.

Wimbledon is set to commence on June 30.
